Emergency power - UPS - Info

Some notes on emergency power or island operation:

- Emergency power is not a UPS (uninterruptible power supply), but switches only after a few seconds, depending on the manufacturer. For example for PC, an additional small UPS system must be connected.

- Emergency power is not an island operation, depending on the manufacturer. This means that sometimes only the battery and not the modules are used.

- An emergency power reserve in the battery should be set for a meaningful emergency power function, so that this is also available in an emergency. This reduces the profitability of the battery.

- The emergency power function may be sometimes just be single-phase and provide little power. That is why it is called emergency power. It is e.g. For light etc, this is not in all rooms and not to cook ...

- The emergency power function requires an (automatic) switching device. This separates the grid from the house. This and the installation costs in Switzerland approx. 2000 CHF

- You can install a cheap hand-held switch as used for generators.

- The power failure in DACH is only a few minutes per year.

- Not every inverter in DC-coupled systems and not every battery in AC-coupled systems can provide emergency power. (Because an independent network is necessary.)

- The smaller the battery (KWh) the smaller usually the power (KW), the more often only one phase and the less makes an emergency power function sense or is made available.
